Obituary for Ron Marinus Van Dorp

Ron Van Dorp
March 24, 1943 to November 26, 2019
Ron (Marinus) Van Dorp, 76, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on November 26th, passing away peacefully at Matthews House Hospice, Alliston, with his devoted wife at his side. Ron was a loving and committed husband and is survived by his wife Jane of 50 years. He was a kind and caring father to his three girls, Harriette (Raymond) Mostert, Mary-Jane (Dan) Davison, and Marieke (Andrew) Patton. His grandchildren, Matthias, Janessa, Deborah, Miranda, Timothy, Abby, and Elise, enjoyed his fun and gentle manner. Ron is survived by his loving sister Truus (late Case) Van Hemert and supportive brothers Gary (Marie), Jack (Kathryn), and John (Gena). He was predeceased by his parents Gerrit and Maria Jacoba Van Dorp and by his dear sisters Riet Huyer (Hubert), Ann Duncan (Bruce) and Hennie Schaly (Hank).
Ron was born in the small village of Maasland in the Netherlands during World War II. In 1955, when he was 12 years old, his parents, 4 sisters, and 3 brothers took passage on the Grote Beer (Great Bear) ship for new opportunities in Canada, landing at Quebec City and originally settling in Thornton, Ontario. With his love of the outdoors and agriculture, Ron stopped his studies and became a farmer at age 14 when his parents bought a farm in nearby Egbert. While in his 20s and on holidays back in his hometown of Maasland, he met and was quickly engaged to Jane. The newlyweds settled onto the homestead of the Egbert farm where they raised mink together for 38 years and where Ron also reared beef cattle with his brother Jack. Because of his health, Ron retired from farming at age 64 and soon after moved to a house in Alliston with a big backyard. Throughout his life, Ron enjoyed spending time with others and meeting new people. He was a man of strong Christian faith and integrity who desired to honour God and to put his faith into action.
Visitation will take place on Sunday December 1st from 2 to 4 pm at W. John Thomas Funeral Home, 244 Victoria Street, Alliston. A funeral service will be held on Monday December 2nd at 10:30 am at Alliston Christian Reformed Church, 28 Downey Avenue, Alliston, with Pastor Darrell Bierman officiating. Interment will follow at Alliston Union Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Ron can be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank or to Life 100.3, Ontario’s Christian radio station.
